We Believe Together – Health Care for All
On April 2nd, 2009, leaders from faith-based networks, national chaplaincy organizations, and denominational structures met in Washington D.C. to receive a policy briefing from Senator Edward Kennedy’s Chief Advisor on Health Reform and to discuss how religious groups could align to support comprehensive health care reform in a prophetic way.
Participants acknowledged that the time frame was short – health care reform bills would soon be introduced – and deliberated on how to construct rapidly a unified faith-based program for advocating in favor of health care for all.
A consensus emerged: on June 24th, in Washington D.C., national religious networks will co-sponsor an Interfaith Service of Witness and Prayer for Health Care Reform, with echo events across the country. The event will draw attention to the moral message offered by every American faith tradition: affordable, accessible, inclusive and accountable health care coverage for all.
